CSU Participates 2nd International Conference on INREM

      Five (5) faculty members of Caraga State University (CSU) participated the 2nd International Conference on Integrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management (INREM 2019) which was held on November 20 – 22, 2019 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City, Philippines. INREM 2019 embarked with the theme “Strengthening local governance for sustainable integrated natural resources and environment” which was participated by government employees, representatives from the different local government units (LGUs), and researchers in the Philippines and in other countries.

          Three (3) faculty members of the Mathematics Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS); Ms. Karen B. Burdeos, Mr. Jan Nino G. Tinio, and Breix Michael G. Agua, and Two (2) faculty members of the College of Forestry and Environmental Sciences; Ms. Meycel Amarille and Dr. Sherryl Paz represented CSU during the said international conference.

          Ms. Burdeos presented a paper entitled “Estimation of Households’ Mean Willingness-to-Pay for an Improved Solid Waste Management in Butuan City”, Mr. Tinio presented a paper entitled “Profile Modelling of Solid Waste Generation of Establishments in Butuan City and Its Implication to Local Government Policy Making”, and Mr. Agua presented a research output entitled “Socio-economic Correlates of Generated Household Solid Wastes: Its Implication to Local Wastes Management”. In addition, Ms. Amarille presented her paper entitled “Community’s Willingness-to-Pay for the Resource Users’ Fee in Andanan Watershed Forest Reserve”, and Dr. Paz presented a paper entitled “Silent Complaints of Threatened Mammals: Rampant Hunting and Trading in Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary”.

          The three-day conference also had plenary sessions covering diverse topics in ecosystem resilience and adaptation, integrated forest landscape management, roles of local governance in conserving and rehabilitating mangroves, forests, and river basins, and the likes. It also had highly calibrated resource speakers from local and international institutions – to mention a few, Dr. Sven Günter, Head of Working Area Forestry Worldwide, Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics, Hamburg, Germany, Prof. Makoto Inoue from the School of Human Sciences of Waseda University, Dr. Alfredo Mahar Francisco A. Lagmay, an Academician and the director of the University of the Philippines Nationwide Operational Assessment, Prof. Masahisa Nakamura from the Research Center for Sustainability and Environment, Shiga University, Japan, and Hon. Alfredo M. Coro II, former municipal mayor and incumbent vice mayor of the Municipality of Del Carmen, Siargao Island.
